Deep Dive is an essential resource for anyone who wants to learn more about OSINT. Rae does an excellent job of explaining the basics of OSINT, as well as providing real-world examples of how it has been used to solve crimes, prevent disasters, and even win wars. Beyond the basics, this book is a great catalogue of resources and TTPs in which even experienced OSINTers will find new angles to explore.

It took me a while to complete reading this book. It is about 500 pages and each of them go into a good amount about the techniques relating to various types of intelligence. Rae does a great job focusing on the methods and references some tools here and there. However, it never felt like you were being bombarded by tools. I personally learned a lot, and will definitely use this knowledge in the future. For me, it was well worth the money.

Sad side tangent: I was reading this book so much, that while I was reading this book, my wife left me. According to the court documents she said "He spends too much time reading the amazing OSINT book called Deep Dive: Exploring the Real-world Value of Open Source Intelligence by Rae Baker. If he left the book for even a second, we would still be together". Bad news was my wife left me. Good news is that I have new OSINT techniques and methods to work harder at becoming a great OSINT analyst.

This books is really well put together. It’s an enjoyable read without practicing the techniques, but is also an amazing training resource if you want to dig into the processes and tools. Rae provides clear explanations of both how and why to use different tools and techniques combined with great examples of each.

Well done Rae and congrats!

As an OSINT professional, I'm always looking to learn new tricks of the trade. This book not only showed me new pivots I can use in my investigations, but also explained every topic in an easy-to-understand way. Deep Dive is definitely a good entry book into OSINT, and also a great read for subject matter experts and everyone in between. One of the best parts about this book is that it doesn't focus on tools, which can become outdated, but more on critical thinking and which questions to ask to get the answers you're seeking. The use of cases and examples makes every topic come together neatly. You can tell Rae put her heart and a lot of passion into writing this. I will be recommending this book to all of my mentees.

I read the book and I can say that I really liked the way that the content was structured Definitely is a book worth buying and gave me a lot of different approaches for an OSINT Investigation, especially in the transportation section! Nice and easy to read, although I would prefer having more links and more real world investigations to follow up the context of the book (that's why I left 4-stars).

This book is a definite game changer, not only did I read it cover to cover, it is utilized as an excellent resource as I navigate complex OSINT investigations. It is also being utilized as a training text for new staff that are brought on. I definitely recommend this book!!

As both an OSINT instructor and practitioner, this is the book I can easily recommend to new OSINT analysts just starting out, or give to those who may need a refresher in specific subject area. Rae thought of everything and set it out from the very beginning. She didn't wait until the end to discuss critical thinking, bias, or ethics. These are fundamental and should be discussed early and often. And, because this book is more about methodology than a running list of resources, she made sure to include OPSEC at every turn to ensure the integrity, safety and security of one's research. For those in the OSINT community, this is the page turner you've been waiting for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good - Worth Buying
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 15, 2023
This is a great OSINT book. It achieves a good balance. Not as technical as some, explains things well, but enough detail for both beginners and the more advanced.
Lays down good advice and foundations, details the main concepts of intel gathering and puts them into perspective
Michael Bazzell’s Open Source Intelligence Techniques, may be more technologically focused, but, this gives it a good run for its money.
Worth buying!
